We’re delighted to take part in the next edition of PhotoBrussels Festival with Inside the Chelsea Hotel — and beyond, the first solo exhibition in Europe by American photographer Linda Troeller.
An intimate journey through a life’s work in photography, at the crossroads of self-portraiture, portraiture and storytelling.
From 1994 to 2013, Linda Troeller lived at the Chelsea Hotel, where she rubbed shoulders with and photographed figures such as Alexander McQueen, Ethan Hawke and Martine Barrat, as well as the hotel’s guests and staff. The exhibition is structured around her perspective, her story and the connections forged through the lens of her Leica.
Six decades of unflinching self-portraits, in which she turns her own body into a canvas for experimentation and invites the viewer to reflect on the figures of the young woman, the erotic woman, the wife, the artist, the mature woman and the elderly woman that she is today. Her intimate and deeply embodied perspective reveals a community shaped by encounters, friendships and unique life journeys.
Rejecting the detached stance of the observing photographer, Linda Troeller steps into the frame, stages herself and lays herself bare.
